I love weddings! I love everything about them: the proposal, the planning, the dressing up, wonderful food, family and friends and best of all the joy! It is the happiest day even if it rains or the flowers are late it always seems to work out. In the case of Elizabeth and Kris, somehow Kris ended up at their house alone with their son, Braden trying to get them both ready, not a family member in sight. As a result he was running late. Some of the ladies were worried, but not Elizabeth. It did not even phase her. He would be there and then they would get married. No worries, no stress. And that attitude seems to have been a part of their relationship from their very first date, a two week trip to Africa! Kris took a chance. Elizabeth took a leap of faith. And off they went and they have not slowed down since.

Their wedding was at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Brookhaven. The ceremony included a mass. Following the service everyone gathered in the church for Braden’s baptism.

The reception was in the Piedmont Room of Park Tavern. The light from the setting sun seemed to make everything glow.

From the dance floor the view out of the windows shows the park and the city of Atlanta.

I wanted to add a few favorites from the Oglethorpe University Alumni Weekend! They had a huge turn out this year and thanks to Barb Henry and the Alumni Relations Staff  everything went smoothly!

Here’s a few Oglethorpe Alumni at the Reunion Party!

What a fun day! We are so happy to have not only been able to photograph this event, but also to be Oglethorpe Alumni ourselves!

This was by far not only the biggest photo shoot we have ever done, but also the most fun! It was such an honor to be asked back to my alma madder to take part in welcoming the largest freshman class Oglethorpe University has ever had! We were hired to capture the various freshman orientation events that went on throughout the weekend, including move in, the honor code signing, the welcoming party at Coca Cola Headquarters, the Grant Park day of service, and the Atlanta Zoo. Oglethorpe has a fun and unique way of welcoming in the new students by helping them move into their dorms! Various athletes, sororities, clubs, and faculty volunteer their time to carry each freshman’s belongings from their cars to their new dorms. The most exciting event for me was the welcoming party thrown by Coca Cola at their headquarters! The kids really seemed to have an absolute blast on the dance floor! The best dancers were of course completely surrounded in the middle of the dance floor by groups of people, making it impossible to photograph all the fun! I learned if you hide your camera and sneak/dance your way to the middle of the circle you can steal a few pictures before they nervously run off. While the party was lots of fun, my favorite event was the Oglethorpe Day of Service at Grant Park, followed by a tour of the Atlanta Zoo! The freshman worked extremely hard to beautify Grant Park! While it can be tricky to convince girls to let you take a picture of them all sweaty and covered in dirt, they were all really good sports about it! The time and energy they donated was truly priceless. Starting off their freshman year by helping their surrounding Atlanta community was a truly inspirational thing to see. To reward them for all their hard work Chick-fil-A had donated lunch and the Atlanta Zoo provided the entertainment with free admission and a tour. I enjoyed being able to capture the extraordinary events that set the tone for the beginning of their college career at Oglethorpe University.

Kira put together a book of some of our favorite photos from the past year. We have also entered it in the Photography Book Now, photography book contest. http://photographybooknow.blurb.com/

I know I am behind the times but I was feeling guilty about neglecting our blog. I can give all of my excuses but the best one is that we are busy. The good kind of busy. So I was trying to figure out how to make blogging more consistent and guess what! There’s an app for that!!!!

So here I am blogging on my iPhone and feeling very tech smart.

To catch you up we have had two really big events. The first is that Kira has left her regular job as a physical therapy tech in order to dive head first into the deep end of our photography business! Cheers can be heard in our house. This means so much for us. The best part is that she loves doing our books and albums so we will be getting those finished much faster now.

The second and even bigger news is that on July 4th, under the fireworks Josh asked Kira to marry him!

Lots more going on but these are by far the biggest.

To paraphrase one of my favorite quotes: this past month has once again shown me that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away. July 4th was one of those moments for me.

My brother-in-law is a very talented lacrosse player and now coach. He has been coaching our local Junior Hornets which is a team that helps to prepare kids for playing at the high school level. Kira and I spent about five hours with the team Saturday shooting their individual and team formal photos and then taking actions shots during two games. I had also rented a lens from Aperturent, a photography equipment rental company that I adore! Through them I am able to ‘try before I buy’. This weekend I rented a 300mm. Which gave fantastic clarity but the lack of range confirmed that it is not a lens that I would make enough use to justify buying. But I loved the results I got with it!

We don’t get much snow here in Georgia, so I had to take some pictures!!!

Now time for some hot Chai Tea and a little planning for the Wedding Shoot on Valentines Day!!

I had this adorable photo of the daughter of the bride from this weekend’s destination wedding in Washington, DC. I knew I wanted to do something special with it. So I spent an hour today riffling through my podcasts looking for inspiration and I finally found two. I watched them, took some notes. Then I opened the photo, created an action as I walked through the steps and voila!

Today is my birthday and for the first time in a few years my sweetie took the day off. It has been so much fun from start to finish! I woke up to breakfast in bed, a 6 foot Teddy Bear blown up in the hall outside our room, gifts from Loren and the kids, and tons of Happy Birthday wishes from my friends! What more can anyone ask for?

I have spent the last two days staying up until the wee hours of the morning working on the photos from this weekend’s destination wedding shoot in Washington, DC. Here is my favorite shot so far.
